A review of the WWII thriller VALKYRIE

Published: 2009-01-04 19:28:03

VALKYRIE is a well crafted World War II thriller that unfortunately mumbles along a plot to kill Hitler by some of his own officers and officials.  Unfortunately for the story the outcome is already known, which puts a damper on the would-be thriller from The Usual Suspects director Bryan Singer.  VALKYRIE: the Official Site Information on the Valkyrie Plot Claus von Stauffenburg on Wikipedia     Other notable WWII resistance films: Sophie Scholl: The Final Days Army Of Shadows

The WWII Documentary THE RAPE OF EUROPA

Published: 2008-11-13 17:50:09

THE RAPE OF EUROPA is a fascinating Documentary about Nazi theft and plunder of art throughout Europe during Word War II. The film not only looks at the means museums and curators went to to keep their art safe and hidden, but also looks at some of the private collectors who were stolen from and what has become of the family paintings that have now become so famous. The Rape Of Europa is a truly amazing documentary that anyone will find fascinating.

The documentary MOUNTAIN TOP REMOVAL

Published: 2008-04-13 20:48:09

Another powerful documentary from the Cleveland International Film Festival, MOUNTAIN TOP REMOVAL takes a look at a devistating type of coal mining that literally grinds down a mountain to get at the coal seams beneath.  It has to be seen to be believed.  This type of mining in rural West Virginia has thrust low income inhabitants into war with massive energy companies to save their way of life and the land they hold dear.Order MOUNTAIN TOP REMOVAL on DVD from Haw River Films MOUNTAIN TOP REMOVAL site This is actually West Virginia:   Cleveland International Film Festival   BLUBRRY.COMInterstate 1002 podcast Door From Hell Radio

SPINE TINGLER! THE WILLIAM CASTLE STORY  is a documentary about B Horror film director William Castle, who brought hordes of viewers to his films in the late 1950's and early 1960's.  But audiences didn't always show up just for the movies, they showed to see what gimmick would be delivered in the next William Castle film.  Whether it was a flying skeleton above the crowd, buzzers in the seats, or an insurance policy against death by fright, Castle knew how to bring in crowds, and his legacy has forever been etched into Hollywood. Spine Tingler! BE KIND REWIND is the latest film from French filmmaker/music video director Michel Gondry.  It stars Jack Black and Mos Def as a misfit duo who inadvertantly erase all the VHS tapes in a local video store.  In an attempt to fix the tapes they decide to begin remaking the movies themselves, which begins to garner them quite a bit of attention in the community.Definitely check out the film's web site, it might be more fun than the movie.  Official SiteDirector FileMichel Gondry site (in French)Cleveland International Film Festival BlubrryInterstate 1002

Review of THE MAN FROM EARTH on DVD

Published: 2008-02-23 18:45:18

The cerebral sci-fi film THE MAN FROM EARTH is a unique kind of science fiction film.  The last script from Jerome Bixby (who died in 1998) the film tells the story of a college professor who floors his colleagues by telling them that he is in fact  14,000 years old and started out life as a caveman.  He goes on to challenge their scientfic beliefs with this tale that some believe is lunacy and others just a cruel joke.  But as the story goes on, could it all be true?   Official film siteJerome Bixby at WikipediaSimilar films: K-Pax  The Man Who Fell To Earth  StarmanInterstate 1002BlubrryDoor From Hell Radio

THERE WILL BE BLOOD is the new film from writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson and stars Daniel Day-Lewis.  The film is very loosely based on a portion of Upton Sinclair's 1927 novel OIL.  The story surrounds a relentless early 1900's oil man bent on building an empire.  He ends up coming head to head with a fire and brimstone boy preacher for control of a small town and the minds of its people.  Currently the film is nominated for 8 Academy Awards this year.  THERE WILL BE BLOOD official siteQuicktime Trailer An informative PT Anderson site Upton Sinclair at Wikipedia
