Education and Skill Development for Future Entrepreneurs - Nov 06,2009

Published: 2009-11-06 10:00:00

Based on information from the U.S. Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy, "Entrepreneurship education is becoming more available at American universities, and researchers are looking at the results. Students who took an entrepreneurship class were more likely to have engaged in three types of "innovation": offering new products or services, obtaining patents or copyrights, and using production techniques that differ from those of the industry’s main competitor. Not surprisingly, graduates who have taken such courses are significantly more likely to select careers in entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship education is more and more available to people looking at career options, whether at the beginning of their working lives or in mid-career. On Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 2:00 pm EST, Biz Talk With Josh host, Joshua Smith, will bring together Dr. John Brazil, President of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, Ms. Theresa Price, Founder and President of The College Expo/National College Resources Foundation, and Mr. Barry Thomas, Vice President of The College Expo, to discuss the importance of obtaining education and skills for students who intend to follow an entrepreneurial path. The Economic Impact of Women-Owned Businesses - Oct 30,2009

Published: 2009-10-30 10:00:00

According to the National Women's Business Council (NWBC), women-owned businesses contribute nearly $3 trillion to our national economy and create or maintain 23 million jobs according to new research conducted by the Center for Women’s Business Research and funded by the National Women’s Business Council and Walmart.   A recently-released report from the NWBC, The Economic Impact of Women-Owned Businesses in the United States, adds to the current understanding of the economic contributions of women-owned firms that to date has relied only on number of firms, revenues and direct employment.  For the first time, this research provides a much more comprehensive picture of the total economic impact of women-owned firms, including the impact of the businesses’ purchases and the purchasing power of their employees and suppliers.   On Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 2:00 pm EST, Biz Talk With Josh host, Joshua Smith, will bring together Ms. Margaret Mankin Barton, Executive Director of the NWBC, and Ms. Gwen Martin, Interim Executive Director and Director of Research at the Center for Women's Business Research (CWBR), to discuss the findings of this important report.  In addition, we will be joined by Karen Kerrigan, President & CEO of the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council).Women-Owned Business Economic Research Small Business Entrepreneurship Joshua Smith

Global Trade Issues, NAFTA and Small Business - Oct 16,2009

Published: 2009-10-16 09:00:00

According to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative in the Executive Office of the President (www.ustr.gov): "On January 1, 1994, the North American Free Trade Agreement between the United States, Canada, and Mexico (NAFTA) entered into force. All remaining duties and quantitative restrictions were eliminated, as scheduled, on January 1, 2008. NAFTA created the world's largest free trade area, which now links 444 million people producing $17 trillion worth of goods and services. Trade between the United States and its NAFTA partners has soared since the agreement entered into force." Yet, in spite of all the unquestionable successes of NAFTA, there are forces in the United States who oppose this agreement and claim that it is responsible for many businesses closing and jobs lost. Broadcasting live from Chicago on October 13, 2009 at 2:00 pm EST (1:00 pm CDT), Biz Talk With Josh host, Joshua Smith, will bring together two experts on international trade to discuss NAFTA and its impact on small business. Please tune in when our guests will be Ambassador Susan Schwab, U.S. Trade Representative from 2006 - 2009; and Mr. Juan Gallardo, Chairman, GEUSA (Grupo Embotelladoras Unidas S.A. de C.V., the second largest and anchor PepsiCo bottling company in Mexico.) Mr. Gallardo was Mexico's principal representative to NAFTA. This show will rebroadcast on www.blogtalkradio.com on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 9:00 amGlobal Trade Caterpillar Corp NAFTA Trade Agreements International
