Ben Stiller

Published: 2008-12-07 08:00:00

Welcome to the final edition of ENOUGH ROPE. Ben Stiller is serious in just about every way. He is a serious director, a serious on screen talent whose movies have grossed almost two billion dollars and by his own admission a serious guy who simply does not know how to tell a joke - and yet he is one of the most popular film comedians of all time.

Wendy Whiteley

All the best stories begin with the words once upon a time and this is no exception. It is a story about two great lovers, one an artist of incredible gifts, the other his muse and of the daughter that became parent to them both. It is about sex, beauty, wanderlust, tragedy and one garden that now lies at the centre of it all and it begins once upon a time, two rebellious teenagers met in a bohemian coffee shop. Ladies and gentlemen, Wendy Whiteley.

On the Road Kununurra

Welcome to another ENOUGH ROPE On the Road special. Our chance to get out of the studio and talk to people in different parts of Australia to see how they are managing with the most difficult subject - Life 101. Over the last 18 months I have been visiting one of the most isolated and spectacular regions in Australia, the Kimberley Ranges. Three thousand kilometres north of Perth, 800 kilometres south-west of Darwin, the West Autralian township of Kununurra has only existed since 1961. Originally built as a service town for the Ord River irrigation scheme, Kununurra, a community of 7000, sits in the middle of ancient red rocks carved through by rivers and waterfalls. It is a physical landscape that is awesome to see.

Stuart Appleby

Mark Twain famously described golf as a good walk ruined. What he missed was a sport about fractions of millimetres, a high stakes high risk often brutal game where a split second of bad luck or timing can derail everything. Stuart Appleby, one of the best golfers we have produced, knows the same is true of life.

Dawn French

Published: 2008-11-09 08:00:00

You know when you are reading a memoir and you get a bad case of life envy because the person whose life you are reading about has lived a life so full of well, life, only in capital letters, that it makes your own life seem quite dull by comparison. Such is the case with Dawn French, a woman with an enviable love of life.

Chris Masters

Published: 2008-11-02 08:00:00

A recent poll found that when it comes to public trust, journalists rank almost at the bottom of the pile, just above politicians and sex workers, but below psychics and astrologers. If that poll had been about Chris Masters, perhaps the result would have been different. For the last 25 years his work has helped call those in power to account, setting a standard for professional integrity that few have matched. And now at 60 he has announced his retirement. What have his years staring into the secret parts of Australia taught him?

The last time we spoke to Sir Michael Parkinson he was still at the crease bat in hand in his mid 90s hoping to bring up the century with an elegant cover drive. Now he is back in the pavilion with a huge career behind him and a new life in front.
