The Book of SFX was a radio experiment and a live event every Thursday night on 90.3 WZBC in Newton, MA, and on wzbc.org. Using binaural microphones, the hosts collected sounds from public areas and private spaces, cut them up, and brought them into the studio each week, using a sampler to layer, loop and distort these microsounds (several seconds, fractions of seconds) into entirely new soundcapes. The result was the intersection between a fractured cinema verite for the ears and improvised electronic compositions that gravitated toward noise. The archived mp3s for this podcast are hosted on archive.org.
